Buenos Dias! 8-12-2013
I had a sweeeeeeet week! Hopefully you liked yours because my was sweet! Last Tuesday, we had time to check out lds/mormon.org and did you know that the churches websites are the bomb!?? And have you ever heard of the josephsmithpapers.org website? So sick. Basically anything that you could ever want to know about the church can be found online, of course all of you already knew this because you all have technology, but this is sweet! You can basically search anything you want church related on lds.org/search and it will give you everything that the church has on it. We searched Elder Holland conference talks, and now we have every single one of them since the beginning in on a flash drive playing in the car! So cool.
Then Wednesday we had interviews with President! And my testimony was reaffirmed that he is called of God to lead this mission. That and he is super crazy smart. When we weren't in interviews with him, we were having instruction from the zone leaders. That was probably one of the best I’ve ever been to. We buried our weapons of war/things contrary to the Lords will, and we made Titles of Liberty/obedience. It was super fun and very instructive and uplifting. Great start for the week. It would make the sweetest lesson in Priesthood too! About burying things like pride, fear, of laziness as our weapons of war against the things that God would have us do, just like those Laminites would never stain their swords again. Then the title of liberty, and signing it, as a covenant to always follow him and keep his commandments and so forth. Awesome!
This last week we had lunch at Isamar's house, and she cooked us carne asada, possibly one of the greatest creations of all time! Super tasty. Yesterday we even had the privilege to take her to the cottage meeting at the Presidents house, where there were recent converts giving their testimonies, and President and Sister Bonham sharing a few words. It was great, and it really strengthened Isamar's desire to do what it takes to get baptized. She really wants to make a push in the right direction now. So sweet.
We also found a new investigator who just got here from Mexico like 4 months ago, and he is super cool too! In Mexico he knew the missionaries, and even was about to go to the temple grounds with them, but it fell through. But he already had a BOM, which we traded him for one in Spanish. He doesn't go to church here yet either, but he's super chill and lets us in right when we met him, gave us some water, love him.
We also helped this lady, doing some service for her getting a dresser out of a sardine-like packed full spare garage. It was packed with tons and tons and tons of other old furniture. Like 300 years old. So we move tons of stuff to get to it. Moved the huge thing out, then into her house and up a flight of stairs with a hairpin turn, all the while listening to her sternly supervise us and repeatedly tell us how old/fragile/valuable/important everything was. Took forever! Pain in the neck. She has some super sweet stuff though. Like a 2nd edition 1903 Webster dictionary, about as fat as my head! and an ancient church pew, perfectly square tall back, and tons of other stuff.
Anyways love y’all tons, have a great week!
Love Elder Phillips
